“Negotiate your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation.”

When writing our assignments we take into account 6 elements “purpose, audience, genre, stance, media, and exigency.” Before taking this class this semester, it was not clear to me that audience analysis plays that important role in the success of an essay. When we write, we need to know exactly who we are writing for and understand information about the reader’s teaching level as well as job responsibilities. This is used to negotiate writing goals and meet the expectations of readers.
