Genre is a rhetorical element of writing, also it is kinds of writing.

During the semester, we wrote 6 types of genres for assignments. They are memos, personal resumes, job posting, technical descriptions, lab reports, and group proposal.

If you want your essay to conform to genre conventions, you need to have a study and understanding of the genre first. For example, technical descriptions are types that require a lot of information and are organized in multiple parts so that the reader does not need to read the entire article, but only the parts they want to understand.

Each time we do an assignment for this semester, we analyze whether our assignment meets the key elements needed for the genre, and whether it meets those needs accurately. Below is a screenshot of the table of content in my lab report assignment. (Fig.1)
